Unity stores messages in exchange/domino, you can't install Unity if
you don't have a mail store to integrate it with (be it an on-box
exchange store, or one or more separate servers).

Unity Connection stores messages internally and does not require
exchange/domino, though it can connect to them for TTS, free/busy,
etc. See feature docs on cco for details.
