[cisco-voip] AbbrDial - Digits after 1St

Is there away if somebody has gone off hook by picking up the handset and entered a number, to make the AbbrDial softkey appear?

My customer is pretty new to the Cisco phones and their natural instinct is to pick up the handset before dialing and they have found when they do this they do not get the AbbrDial option. From what I can see there is no way to add this key to a softkey template.
