[cisco-voip] Testing New Firmware on a Single Phone

The readme is specific to the phone load whereas the cop.sgn or cop  
file is specific to the CUCM version.  In fact there would be a .zip  
or .exe that you have to use to install the load on a Windows based  
CUCM.

You also would have noticed when you tried the install that 6.1 will  
only see the cop.sgn file as a valid install file.

The descriptions differ like this:

For the .cop = 7911/7906 SCCP IP Phone load - Compatible CUCM  
Versions: 5.0(1), 5.0(2), 5.0(3)

For the cop.sgn = 7911/7906 SCCP IP Phone load - Compatible CUCM  
Versions: 5.0(4)+



So I guess the “+” is the clue to which file to use, the cop.sgn.   
Seems like it would be easy to simply list the compatible CUCM  
versions.  But that’s just me, I guess.



Still, all you say, Ryan, should do it for me.  Much appreciated.

Go to my test phone in CCM Admin and fill in the Phone Load Name  
field.  But what name do I put in there?  It won’t be the name of the  
file I downloaded, I believe.  If I look through the root using TFTP  
File Management, I assume I’ll find a file named nearly the same as  
the one I downloaded, no?  Would that be the proper name to enter on  
my test phone?

RR>Yes and no.  See below for details.

And finally if I wanted all our 7911 phones to use the new firmware,  
do I simply edit Load Information field in Device>Device  
Settings>Device Defaults field and then reset all our 7911s?

RR>Simply installing the phone load will update device defaults for  
you.  If you don't want it to apply to all of the phones of that  
model then before you install the new load jot down the current value  
of device defaults for that phone model.  After you do the install go  
back and change the device defaults page back to what it was  
originally.  The value you need to put on the device page for the  
phone you want to upgrade is the same value that is set by the  
install package in device defaults.  Once you are familiar with the  
formatting you'll know what to put there and how it changes with  
respect to the version of the phone load.
