it shouldn't really be taking over, other than it used to begin 
attempting to replicate the new database.

to abort any 'special steps' that are in place as a result of the 
upgrade you will need to:
1. switch version to the new version
2. switch version back to the old version

depending on your 'old version' you may have to re-establish
