I am unable to register CUPC client as a softphone when synced with LDAP. It appears CUPS 7.0.3 sees special characters as pertinent in the usernames now. So when an LDAP user is synced into CM such as "bob.thomas", the device name "UPCBOBTHOMAS" does not work. The CUPC client is allowed to sign in but the deskphone will stay in the "Not Active" state. PCAPs showed that the PC never attempted contact the CM after trying to receiving its config file. When looking at the detailed logs you see,

2009-02-19 10:27:12,259 [0x00000998] INFO  LCMiddleware - (MWMSG_CFGMGR_LICENSING) ConfigurationManager: licensing =
    Presence = yes
    Softphone = no
    Video = yes
    IM = yes

On the CM, license capabilities are assigned. I removed the "." from the username which caused the Softphone to be able to register. I am not seeing this on CUPS 7.0(2) systems. Does anyone know another work around? I will probably roll this system back to 7.0(2) since it is just not feasible for the decimal to be removed from all usernames if there is no better workaround. Does anyone know if this was addressed under CM 6.1(3a) or a pending release? I am going to test this next week but I have a feeling names longer than twelve characters will also be have issues registering as a CUPC softphone.
