We moved slowly, from a PBX to CM also. but what I did is setup small
imports (say 50 phones) Then with the techs where ready to go install
phones I imported 50 phones.... they installed. Soon as they were ready to
do more i would import another 50. you could do smaller amounts if that
helped. But it worked really well for us as it only took about an hour for
our techs to get the phones installed so at most people were only down that
long.

YMMV.
