Well, it appears this is the case - finally had a chance to open the 2801 again and test with the E1 card in slot 1, and with 1 x PVDM2-16 module and then with 2 x PVDM-8 modules.

The 2801 happily creates the PRI-group in both circumstances above, so it appears the 2801 doesn't care if the DSP resources come on 1 or 2 modules, as long as there's enough to create the 10 channel PRI-group. All looks nominal. If only I had a live, spare E1 circuit here I could use to test it...

I'm hoping to take this router to one of our sites and swap it for a 2811 that's currently in service there. If I can get this done, and anyone cares, I'll report back on my success or lack of same.
