I'd say the symptom is you hear something odd in the headset after  
going offhook on a 79x2/5 phone.  The DC offset I believe is the  
wrong voltage being sent to the DAC (digital to analog converter).   
Basically it's a phone DSP issue that causes something bad.

Symptom:
dsp may introduce a dc offset in the receive (DAC) path.

Conditions:
handset mode (possibly other modes).

Workaround:
none
