[cisco-voip] CUCM 7.1 Upgrade License

Previously, you needed SAS or SASU.

If you had SAS you were not entitled to even minor upgrades as far as I know. SASU gave you this.

Issue is (and I think it still is) - once you have access to software, you have it for everything. You can download software for a 2950 same way you can for a 6500.

It's honour system in that way. It did confuse people.

I guess I’m confused because Cisco’s security advisories clearly state

“Cisco will release free software updates that address these vulnerabilities and this advisory will be updated as fixed software becomes available.”

However, further down it says that if you don’t have a current contract that you have to put in a tac case referencing the advisory as your entitlement. So as long as there was a security fix (maybe bug too?) you can get a free upgrade (at least minor revisions).

That being said, I have the same question as Scott. When did that change? I know in 6.x we did not have to upgrade licensing for minor revisions.

Sure you do, you need ESW for minor and UCSS for major.

I was pretty sure minor releases didn’t require any support since they are usually just bug/security fixes

I was pretty sure that without a support contract you don't get any software, minor or major.

With Essential (or whatever it's called for voice) you get minor, so everything except the next integer release, i.e 7.x gets you all 7.x

With UCSS you get major upgrades for as long as you have UCSS.

I'm sure it's written down somewhere on CCO

So even Minor 7.0 to 7.1 need a new feature license? I thought it was only for major..... 7.1 to 8.0. When did that change? or am I just totally out to lunch?

Yes, you will need to obtain a 'software feature license'. This should be trivial when you place order through the Product Upgrade Tool (PUT):

Last year we upgraded from CallManager 4.1(3) to CM 7.0. I have since patched it to (I think) versions 7.0.1 and 7.0.2. Now, we'd like to upgrade to 7.1. Do I need to obtain a software license from Cisco for 7.1 before running the upgrade? Not sure if that's considered a "major" upgrade or not.

Thanks!
