[cisco-voip] Broken 7960s

If the 7960 hook switch simply has dust on it, the normal cause of failure it seems, just take a little Windex on a paper towel and clean off the gold contacts on the board it touches, then -gently- clean off the black rubber spot that makes the contact. Never had one not work after doing that.

Also - one other trick. If you have someone who instead of using the button to adjust the base, forced it down and broke it so the phone no longer stands up, that too can be easily fixed. Just need a box of thick rubber bands, some glue, a small file and a few mins time to get it back to like new shape. I'll take pictures next time if anyone really wants to know how to MacGyver it back together in such a fashion, but it's really only for those of us that are frugal/cheap and want to keep our older phones going as long as possible. =)

Thanks for the parts link - didn’t know we could buy parts for them.

-Frank

I know it's not exactly what you asked, but we've had great success by
doing the factory reset procedure on 7960's and 7961's

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_tech_note09186a00800941bb.shtml

usually between that and replacing hookswitch parts we've been able to
recover most of the phones we thought were bricked.
