Regarding the phone loads yes, all new phone loads are backwards-
compatible to 3.3(5) I believe. You can confirm this by looking at
the downloads page on cisco.com for the load itself.

Hi All,

I am going to complete an upgrade from CM 4.x to CUCM 7.x and wanted
to confirm somethings.

Pre-upgrade tasks:
1. Baseline the system with RTMT, record the number of registered
phones and gateways
2. Download phone firmware for CUCM 7.x
3. Copy firmware files to the remote gateways and configure TFTP for
those files
4. Change option 150 to the remote gateways for each site one at a
time and reset phones - phones download the new firmware
5. Change option 150 to CM 4.x - phone register to CM 4.x again

Once the phones have downloaded the new firmware files for CUCM 7.x
(7.1.2), will they still register to the CM 4.x server as normal - is
this supported?

Upgrade tasks:
1. Backup the BARS
2. Install and run the Upgrade Utility all both PUB and SUB
3. Install and run the DMA on the PUB
4. Install CUCM 7.x
5. During the installation process of CUCM 7.x, provide the DMA file
6. After installation, request license file from Cisco
7. Upload the license file.

Post-upgrade tasks:
1. Baseline the system with RTMT, complete registered phones and
gateways
2. Monitor servers

Can someone comment to their experience of upgrading CM 4.x to CUCM 7.x?

Thanks
