Hi Robert,

Can you describe the network connection (public internet, VPN tunnels,
DSL/cable, etc...) between the phone and CUCM of these 7961s that are
"in the field"?

-Chris

Subject: [cisco-voip] Laggy 7961 Telephones

We have over 1300 telephones in the field, only about 133 of them are
7961's. I have a fairly large percentage of those users, including
myself sometimes, who notice some degree of lag in the telephone's
response to user input, especially amongst those who may have formerly
had a 7960.

For example, my duties often require making several test calls, usually
in rapid succession. So, I dial a number, get a busy or a ring or
whatever, press EndCall and start dialing the next number. The 7961
generally doesn't start responding until about the 3rd or 4th digit,
which means I have to EndCall and begin dialing again. My 7960 "test"
phone cannot be tripped up like that, not as fast as I can dial it.

I suppose this user experience would not be a problem if they users had
always had 7961's, but since we're dealing with enigmatic people who are

generally essentially computer illiterate but know thousands of 20 digit

part numbers and can type those at 100 words per minute, they expect the

phone to keep up with them.

So, while I expect there to be nothing to be done about it, I thought I
should check the brain trust here before consulting with TAC on the
issue...

Robert
