[cisco-voip] DMA and upgrade at the same time?

In my VMs I mount the ISO files as physical media and it recognizes
the file so I know for certain that burning the iso as an image will
work. Given that the SFTP option downloads the actual .iso file my
guess is it will work either way.

Sorry, I meant to say the "upgrade file", like when it asks you for
the location of the upgrade file as in SFTP or local media. I'd like
to cut a DVD but when I created a DVD from the ISO it failed. I heard
talk of it just wanting to see the ISO file on the DVD.

So: put in 7.0 media, choose to upgrade, pop in DVD with 7.1(3) ISO
file on it as the only file.

The upgrade on Cisco.com should not be bootable. This is to counter
piracy. Ordering from Cisco should provide bootable media. You need
bootable media to recognize hardware and start the process, then you
can feed any patch (upgrade) file.

Thanks for the clarification Wes.

Something that was hanging out there was whether or not the upgrade
DVD is supposed to be a DVD with an ISO file on it or a DVD cut from
the ISO.

Hi Lelio,

Some thunderbird prowess finally provided the answer:

********************
You can't do an upgrade during a W1. You can do an upgrade followed
by a W1 only if the DMA tarball was created for the version of
software you upgraded to. If it was not, you will most likely hit a
DB failure. If the software upgraded to is 6.1.2+, the W1 failure
most likely would be due to detection of invalid DMA version versus
active version.
********************

I also confirmed that a few individuals in TAC have observed successes
performing upgrade and import. These were primarily motivated by the
availability of bootable media. For example:

1. use dma 7.1.3 to export your CM4.1.3 data
2. boot from your CM7.0.2 bootable media
3. select to upgrade during install
4. point to cm713 upgrade file on sftp server
5. let install proceed, it will trigger another reboot
6. after reboot install will start again. at this point select to
import windows data and point to dma file on sftp server

Key being that you used dma for 7.1.3 and used CM version 7.1.3 as the
final destination version. This is just a workaround for not having
7.1.3 bootable media.

Regards,
Wes

DMA Import is at install only so you will have to install and dma and
then upgrade after you complete the install

ok. thanks. can i do a DMA import after an installation + upgrade is
completed? or does DMA import have to be done at install time?

I believe DMA import + upgrade at same time are unsupported:
example: dma 4.1, begin install of 7.0, select import windows, and
select to apply additional patches (7.1).

I am looking for supporting documentation.

Sorry if I posted this already....

Does anyone know if you can do both a DMA and upgrade at the same time
when installing v7.0 ?

I know I can go through the installation steps myself, but I'm hoping
someone will share their experience, secrets or guess.
