The answer is, it depends. I'm running into the same issue. I haven't worked from an IOS level, but a platform level.

What platform are you using?
What protocol are you hoping to use?

ISR G2 + MGCP + CUCM Compatibility: MGCP gateways require CUCM 6.1.5, 7.1.3 or 8.0. Alternatives: Use H.323, although this may raise the level of complexity of the deployment.

ISR G2 + CUE + CUCM Compatibility: There is currently no CUE module that is supported in the ISR G2 that supports CallManager 4.1(3). Alternatives: Non e.

CUE + CUCM Compatibility: There is currently no CUE version that supports both CUCM 4.1(3) and CUCM v7.1(3). Once migration takes place all CUE version need to be upgraded. Alternatives: None.

ISR G2 + SRST + CUCM Compatibility: As far as I can tell, there is no "compatibility" requirement with SRST and CUCM, only between the phone load and SRST.

AA TCL Functionality: From what I gather, there is a rudimentary AA TCL script that can be used in place of CUE on the 3945. However, there is no support from Cisco on this. Alternative: Buy an AIM module for the 3725 router and use this as a backup.

Along those same lines is the IOS 15.0.1 actually required for the voice gateway with CUCM 7.1.3? I can understand for SRST/SCCP conferencing, transcoding, etc, however what about MGCP/H.323 vgw operations? I know what the compatibility matrix says.

Thanks!

Here's my take on whether CUCM vX support 79XX phone.

    • is the phone EOL'ed? if so, it's not officially supported.
    • does the compatibility mattrix have a phone load listed for that phone? if so, it is supported if not EOL'ed. if EOL'ed, it will more than likely work. as Ryan and Wes has said, people are still using VIP+20s on their system.

That being said, even if there is no firmware in the column, I think it just means that it wasn't tested. Also, you might find that the firmware has not changed for a few versions.

Hope that helps.

No? OK, OK, you want the links, I know, I know.... ;)

7905 EOL

Compatibility Mattrix

http://cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.html

Scroll down and you'll see 8.X, 7.X and 6.X (and some of 5.X) all have cmterm-7905-sccp.8.0.3.cop.sgn listed for the 7905.
