A limitation without any benefit I think!

HI Ahmed,

Good catch. No, it looks like users still have to authenticate. However, the only 'valid' authentication is the user currently logged into the phone. From the defect:
"Personal Address Book only allows users who are logged in to EM, to use only their ID and PIN to access Personal Address Book."

Hi Wes;

Do you mean that when a user is logged to a phone with EM and click PAB he should just get his PAB without re-authenticating??? I have tried that with 7.1 and not working in that way it asks again for username and password.

PAB integration with EM attempts to use the EM user to access PAB. This is for seamless user experience.

In windows versions of CM it was possible to define a custom username and password for the PAB service so you could create a single phone service with user and pass defined and then subscribe multiple users. This is no longer possible in CM5.x and beyond. This is captured in feature request
CSCtd13802 Need an option to create Global Address Book

Please work with your Cisco account team to request this feature.

Hello group,

We are currently running CUCM 7.0.2 and 7960/7970 series IP Phones. We use EM for users to login to phones. I have created a generic user on CUCM and subscribed to personal address book feature. I have created some entries in the PAB thru CCM user page and I can see these entries on the phone.

Now my question is, how do I share this PAB with other users? I have tried to access the PAB using the generic account but it gives me an error saying “Please use EM userid and PIN”

1-login as user1 EM account à successful

2-login as user2 PAB while user1 is still logged in with his EM account à gives me the above error.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Kiran
