[cisco-voip] 4.2 to 8 upgrade

We have a rule here through Cisco that no product is sold without a maintenance contract “Smart net or Co-brand as I remember” so this is always a valid option.
And BTW just checked CCO and the version 8.5(1) just released 7-DEC.

By license, I meant "right to upgrade". Upgrading from 8.0 to 8.5 is not free per se, you need to be on a maintenance contract of some type.

I think there will be no difference in the license for 8.5 if you have 8.x then you can run any version of CUCM 8…also I think files are downloadable now as ISO images.
But I think 8.5 is not released on CCO till now as I think.

for sure...if only 8.0 is available for whatever reason, i.e. media and/or license, then yes, 7.1.5 is not a viable option.

You're correct, however, if she doesn't have 8.5 and upgrades to 7.1.5, how does she get to 8.0(x)?

as per the compatibility matrix (all hail the compatibility matrix!), upgrades from 7.1.5 to 8.5 are supported.

Just don't go to 7.1.5. IIRC, right now the upgrade paths to 8 from 7 include only 7.1.3 and earlier.
