I know this is possible in 7.1.2+
On the Phone page, on top right Related Links drop is Migrate Phone.
You can also do a bulk migration from Bulk Admin -> Phone Migration.

Do I recall in 8.0(2c) we can change the model of phone say 7942 to 7962? But you can't do it in 7.1?
