[cisco-voip] HA With UCCX

The last I heard was that it is still dedicated hardware on the 8.x release
of the software. 8.1/ 8.5 are going to allow you to run multiple VM's on the
same physical server. It is not a matter of if the UCS blade can support it
but it is what the design guides are at this point.

My understanding was that you didn't have to use a dedicated host for the
UCCx VM for HA on UCS, but that you simply couldn't run both UCCx VMs on the
same host from a practical standpoint... Where's the HA in that scenario?
I think that's the thinking behind that.
You do need dedicated hardware resources, but most of the UC blades for UCS
have enough resources to run a CM Sub VM along with the UCCx VM and so on.
I don't think those requirements will ever be relaxed, as its only logical
design. Dedicating hardware resources is akin to applying a priority queue
to your switching infrastructure for RTP, and the HA VM's running on
separate blades or even chasis just makes sense from a hardware redundancy
standpoint. If you're going to call it HA, it should be HA.

Of course it does. :) They are going to relax a lot of the requirements
around VMware soon but I don't think that is going to be one of them.

Does UCCX also have the requirement to use Cisco UCS as the server platform?
I thought it did but may be wrong.

Thanks Tanner. Do you know what the max latency is for version 8.x is
between machines?

HA is only available over the WAN on version 8.x (same for virtualization).
If running 7.x or below you'll have to have them located on the same LAN.
