[cisco-voip] RSPAN for call recording

Another possibility if you have a Cat6500 and do not want to use a .1q trunk for the span traffic is ERSpan. This uses a GRE tunnel to send the mirrored traffic to a destination switch (which must also support the feature).
Overall, I don't really like VR span down at the user access level because many switches only seem to support two source sessions. If you can place your voice gateways into a VLAN and span that into the recorders, you would free up some span sessions for other purposes down at the access layer.
Hope this helps
James.

That's the essence of it .
1. Create a new VLAN on the switches.
2. Put in the command under the vlan "remote-span" (or something like that).
3. Create a monitor session like this: monitor session 1 source vlan vlanid then monitor session 1 destination remote vlan vlanid (where vlan id is the vlan id you used)
4. Trunk the vlan to the switch that has the recorder connected.
5. Create a monitor session like this: monitor session 1 source vlan vlanid (where vlan id is the remote span vlan ID) then monitor session 1 destination interface gi0/0 (or whatever physical interface you're using).

Subject: [cisco-voip] RSPAN for call recording
I've been tasked with setting up call recording for the first time and need some assistance.
We have 2 access layer switches which have a seperate voice VLAN configured. How do I go about creating a SPAN to the core switch which has the Call Recording server connected to?
Do I create a new call recording VLAN on the core switch, trunk it to the access layer switches and create RSPAN sessions on each access layer switch?
Some advice on best practice would be really appreciated.
