[cisco-voip] UCCX 8 Licensing

That reminds me of a place that used to re-install a "demo" version of their corporate email software every 30 days to keep things running. They did this for years. Imagine the money they saved! ;)

Just FYI - if you change any of the values back to the old value, it buys you another 30 days. It's a nice workaround to a fairly messy problem.

But as you went to the Temp license nothing failed. So if you change something the system does not stop working while on the Temp license giving you time to get a new permanent license from TAC.

I just changed the gateway ip and it went back to temp license. Again I had to run behind TAC. After few hours we were able to get the license. Luckily our setup was not under production at the time I made the change. Otherwise I would have been screwed up. Cisco has to find a better way of overcoming this.

You will know because your call center will have been out of service by that time L
But what if I generated the license using the license MAC and then after a year or so I want to change any of the below parameters…will this be allowed for re-hosting?? If so then what is the reason for that change from the beginning!!!!

It does not; this started in 8.0, for CCM it’s only for VMinstalls, for CCX it’s for all. You do have 30 days to rehost if you aren’t aware of the change. You will also see a license warning if you login and a change you don’t know about has occurred.

Please tell me CallManager v7 licensing doesn't work this way.

You have got to be kidding!
But in this new version the license gets associated to something we call now 'License MAC', which is a 12 digit HEX value created by hashing a great deal of parameters that you configure on the server, including: Time zone, NTP Server 1 (or ‘none’), NIC speed (or ‘auto’),
Hostname, IP Address, IP Mask, Gateway Address, Primary DNS, SMTP Server (or ‘none’), Certificate Information (Organization, Unit, Location, State, Country), etc. If there’s a change on any of these parameters, the License MAC also changes and you will need to request a re-host license to the Cisco licensing team in no more than 30 days.
i can't change my ntp server or nic speed or SMTP server without re-hosting? this stuff changes here without us even knowing sometimes!
Ed, don't send stuff like this on a Friday! :(
