That's what I initially thought would work.  The port DNs are already
unreachable except from the VM pilots.  The trouble seems to be on the Unity
side. Unity doesn't see a "forwarded from" extension...it considers DNs that
match port DNs to be direct calls if I am interpreting the Port Status
Monitor output correctly.
