[cisco-voip] Changing Codec from G711 to G729

The Unity part is not true. Unity supports G729 as well, it will transcode
in software.
You can disable this transcoding to force Unity to use an external
transcoder for load balancing / offload reasons.
SRND for CUCM and Design Guide for Unity cover all of this stuff quite
nicely.
Agree with John on the conf bridge side, definitely a good idea to put
hardware resources out on the edge sites, and ensure you understand and
configure your MRGs and MRGLs to use the resources correctly.
The conference calls will probably be failing because your software
resources on CUCM servers do not support G729. If they receive a G729 setup
attempt, they would be trying to locate a transcoder to convert it to G711,
if no go, then the call would fail.
Cheers,
Tim.
