[cisco-voip] New to Cisco Voice - Need to Setup Fax

You may want to look into Fax over IP software, such as XMedius Fax
(what we use), to centralize as much faxing as possible. We've moved
almost exclusively to server based faxing, with integration using HP
MFPs and I support almost no analog fax machines anymore (and I don't
have to worry about WAN issues at all).
T.38 is probably the protocol you want to use either way, as it is the
standard that specifically supports Fax over IP in conjunction with fax
machines.

Subject: [cisco-voip] New to Cisco Voice - Need to Setup Fax
Hello,
I have a small MetroE network and I would like to consolidate my Faxing
as I have done with my Voice. I have a 7200vxr with VXB T1 card to
connect to my PRI (that I got with the anticipation of fax oIP, to be
frank, sucking). Am starting to use that same PRI for in LATA calls
managed by my local SBC but my primary LD is sent to a ITSP via SIP.
My question and thoughts are as follows; What is the simplest solution
to support about 25 Fax attached ATA's (spa8000, spa2102 & Audiocodes
MP-2032) to the voice gateway (PRI router)? I was thinking of setting
up a Cisco 2821 (that I already have) with a PVDM2-32/64 and CME 4.3/7
with a SIP trunk to the voice gateway.
Forgive my ignorance. I am a diehard R&S guy and got through into the
Voice world.
* Do I need to PVDM2 if I am doing only SIP to SIP?
* Does that version of CME support T.38 well or at all?
* What is this Fax Relay all about and do I need it? I am
reading mixed reviews.
Thank you for any advice, help or information.
My Regards,
Alexander A. Lindsay
