My suggestion would be to do this as Greenfield deployment. There are lot more features in newer versions that you can take advantage of such as LRG, E.164 and clean up your CSS/Parition etc.

Well in 7.x or 8.x you can migrate phones so that you can move (hopefully) all those settings from the 7900s to the 8900s.
I have not used the migration tool so I'm not sure if it gets everything but should be a lot easier than reprogramming everything.
So do your upgrade and then you can do a mass migration using BAT.

Any idea?
I have experience of upgrading in upgrading CM3.3 --> 4.X ---> 7.X.
To 8.X should be 1 extra steps away.

However, the problem is customers will be replacing all their existing 7940/60 series IP phones to newer 8 series.

If customer prefer to keep their existing user settings like speed dial on each individual phones, what's the best way to do it?

Any tricks to run some sort of commands on the CM 3.3 SQL and extract the neccessary information? I don't mind setting up everything (partition/css/route pattern) all over again except those user/phone configurations (such as extension number/speed dial buttons/personal speed dial in their user profiles)
