CSCtc99413 Upgrade from CM5.x to 6.x or 7.x result in LowActivePartition DiskSpace

Older versions used fixed partition sizes so they didn't take advantage of larger disks . Newer versions (6.1 and later) use percentage based partitioning to take advantage of complete disk . This usually results in larger partitions for larger disks .

so you might be ok upgrading to 6.1 first?

For me on 3.3 ---> 4.2(3) ---> 7.1.2 i think ( i roughly remembered I didn't go 6.x since it can't go 8.5.1 directly)
I hit the logging issue, after that I upgrade to 7.1.3, and finally on 8.5.1

I can't really remember the exact path i took, normally i will just trust the cisco compatibility matrix.

I done this at home using vmware. When I'm finally at 8.5.1, i did DRS and restore it into the actual physical server.

Then upgrade to 8.5.1SU1 on the actual physical server.

Yes, I faced this issue when I did upgrade from 3.3 to 8.5!

In the end, by upgrading to 7.1.3 does the trick before i can successfully upgrade to 8.5.

there were some issues with upgrading from 5/6 to 7/8 i think. something about disk space and logging. you might be better off upgrading from 4 to 4.1(3) and then from there to 7.1(3) to 8.x

you might be able to get around the logging issue by taking a DRF, then re-installing and restoring.

Just a thought, something to think about.

DMA 6.0.1a.exe is available in the software downloads on the Cisco site. I just downloaded it.

Hi All

I have a job to complete an upgrade from 4.0.2a to 8.5.1, obviously there will be a number of steps involved but looking at the compatibility matrix it says you can do a Direct Upgrade using DMA from 4.0.2a to 6.0.1 and 6.1.1. The only available versions of DMA are 7.1.2, 7.1.3 and 7.1.5 and the release notes for these state that its for versions 4.1.3, 4.2.3 and 4.3.1.

So is this going to be possible and do I need an older version of DMA or has the compatibility matrix got a typo.

Anyone done a similar upgrade from 4.0.2a.?

Cheers
