Google Apps is free for .edu users....

Saves lots of $$ on hardware and licensing.

Microsoft also has a free one live at edu but I don't think it's compatible with Unity Connection.

FWIW, Supposedly they are working on Unity Connection UM for the paid equivalents of Microsoft's free education offering.

I agree with Matthew... Classic Unity must have Exchange since messages are actually stored directly in the Exchange IS. I don't know much about Unity Connection, but store and forward from a user's perspective is going to be quite a change in behavior and functionality from what they are accustom to with Classic Unity. S&F is not going to be as elegant of a solution compared to what you have now.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the drivers for migrating to Google Apps?

Well I'm sure classic Unity isn't going to be able to do anything for you and Unity Connection is only going to offer you store and forward.
Google Apps isn't exchange. I also haven't heard of any plans period for Google Apps support for UM.
Not the answer you probably wanted.

Hello all, we are a college in Salem, OR and our administration is seriously looking into moving all staff/faculty (between 1000-1500 mailboxes) to Google Apps and dropping Exchange. We have Unity UM (v. 5.0.1) and my colleagues and I are just starting to look into how this will work for UM. Is anyone looking to do the same thing?
Thanks in advance.

Rossella
