[cisco-voip] log file for license mac change

Although there may be some benefit to finding out what caused the problem to avoid it happening again.

Wes: Is the BU putting any thought to changing what parameters affect the hash? I mean, it's a bit excessive including the NTP host in there, that can change at the drop of a dime for whatever reason. I know re-hosting with licensing at cisco.com isn't too much of an issue, but it's still work.

Yep. At this point the damage is done. Effort is best applied on moving forward.

But if I no idea what changed, there's no "license log" file to show "parameter_ntp changed" type of entry.

I do appreciate the help you've given Wes, it just seems that I would have have the license rehosted by the time I look thru all the individual log files.

Hi Tim,

I believe the mac is a hash of the parameters. I believe changing the value back will not re-validate the existing license. This is my understanding, i'm open to being proven wrong.

As for knowing which parameter changed the logs I cited below will provide insight on what got changed and when.

sorry Wes. I should have been more clear on my question.

I'm familiar with what will make it change. Just curious if there is any record of when the change happens and what got changed to make a new license mac.

I have images across 2 C200s and I'm waiting on licenses from Cisco, but in the mean time my license mac changed on me and now when the licenses show up, I'll have to rehost them all.

If I knew what parameter got modified, I could possibly flip it back and forgot this all happened.

I'm putting this together quickly and adhoc so there is plenty of room for error. Hopefully others on the list can contribute/correct. For the items in that list I believe the audit means are:

•Time zone
changed from CLI. "IPT Platform CLI Logs" and "IPT Platform CLI Created Reports": https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-16943

•NTP server 1 (or "none")
changed from CLI

•NIC speed (or "auto")
changed from CLI

•Hostname
changed from ccmadmin and CLI. CLI change affects licensing. use CLI logs.

•IP Address (or "dhcp")
changed from OS Admin: "Cisco Unified OS Admin Web Service", "Cisco Tomcat": https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-16943
changed from CLI

•IP Mask (or "dhcp")
changed from OS Admin or CLI. see paths above

•Gateway Address (or "dhcp")
changed from OS Admin or CLI. see paths above

•Primary DNS (or "dhcp")
changed from OS Admin or CLI. see paths above

•SMTP server (or "none")
changed from OS Admin or CLI. see paths above

•Certificate Information (Organization, Unit, Location, State, Country)
changed from CLI. see paths above

Is there a log file that documents when the license mac changed on UCCX 8+ or UCM/Connection 8+ on UCS?

My license mac changed and I have no idea or record of what changed on the OS configuration to make a new license mac hash.

Any ideas?
