IMS is actually a component in each service that uses directory lookups.
This means CTI and Tomcat at a minimum, on each node, will have their own
IMS and do their own ldap operations.   You should be able to confirm this
with packet captures and/or logs at the ldap server to see where the queries
are coming from.
