[cisco-voip] 'remote controlling phones

Great!

The main sticking point is usually the unlock of the phone, if you are scripting and you can't see the phone screens, you can't tell if any are locked/un-locked. Obviously they are normally locked by default, but if you have a sequence you can send a couple of times that will perform the same steps from the same starting point you should be covered.

You also need about a 5 second gap/pause after sending **# as the phone can take a bit of time to unlock and won't be ready for the next key-press. Another trick is sending **# in a single CiscoIPPhoneExecute object to make sure the buttons are pressed in a timely manor.

If you haven't done so already you should download the free version of PhoneView (http://www.unifiedfx.com) and create the relevant macro, it's very quick and easy, there is a demo video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7oPuj1szNg

If you then copy the Macro to notepad you will have a list of all the Internal URI's you need in the right sequence ;)

I had some of the uris and some working code already so I know it works in our environment. I just need to account for our different models and a few uris I had not found yet.

Hi Erick,

In order to make sure you are following the right information for each UCM version the main page to start from is:
<http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_programming_reference_guides_list.html>http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_programming_reference_guides_list.html

If you then goto the Cisco Unified IP Phone Services Application Development Notes for the relevant release, for example UCM 8.5 is: <http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/all_models/xsi/8_5_1/xsi_dev_guide.html> http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/all_models/xsi/8_5_1/xsi_dev_guide.html

In particular for pressing keys etc. you should refer to the Internal URI Section:
<http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/all_models/xsi/8_5_1/supporteduris.html>http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/all_models/xsi/8_5_1/supporteduris.html

You do need to watch out for the new phone models 89xx & 99xx etc., the URI's are quite different for opening the Setting Page for example.

I'm curious as to your ultimate objective, is it purely a learning exercise, or do you have some objective?

I ask, because there are a lot of people stuck having to delete the ITL File on their IP Phones due to Security by Default in UCM 8.x

I've seen companies use different approaches to do this, some script others buy software, but in some situations the phones Authentication URL is broken and pushing commands to the phones web server doesn't cut it, so you might need a Plan B ;)

I have quite a lot of experience in this area and happy to discuss in more detail.

Thanks

Before anyone says “buy a product”, I’m doing this as a learning exercise. I WANT to do this myself so I can customize it to my exact needs.

Here’s a question I’ve been researching and can’t seem to find any documentation on.

There’s a url on the phone’s web interface which allows you to send xml messages to ‘control’ a phone.
(<CiscoIPPhoneExecute><ExecuteItem URL="' XXXXX'"/></CiscoIPPhoneExecute>)

For instance, I can send the XML to activate the speaker button or press a certain softkey.

Is there documentation anywhere for the different values of ‘XXXXX’ for different keys?
