[cisco-voip] 7965 Caller ID Left Side of Screen

What phone load are you running?  I did a test on a 7970 on 9-1-1 and it's a single button press to "hide" the call. 
From reading the user guide it looks like this mode is called "call overview" mode and is used to help users handle multiple calls on a phone across various lines.

Auto call select when enabled is for a incoming call on the same line,
the phone will automatically scroll down to that call and the Answer
soft key will appear.  If you disable it you have to manually use the
rocker to choose the call, then the Answer key will appear.
