Yes it will work if you have the DLU's. Did you register them to your CCM on
4.x before the upgrade to 8.x? The upgrade licensing procedure would have
taken care of this for all of the spare phones.

Now that the licensing is so different from the 4.x generation, where you
bought each phone with a license and there were spares (marked with an equal
sign in the part number), how does all that transfer over to 8.x?  Say I
have a phone with the = on the end of the PN, if I connect it to my network
running 8.x, will it work (as long as I have enough DLUs or whatnot on my
CM)?
