at first glance this looks like the results of selecting no. if yes and any value specified then i'd expect to see a validate address line.

sample from another server:
InstallWizard|Arguments: "DNS Client Configuration" "Do you want to enable Domain Name System (DNS) Client on this machine?" "Yes" "No" "Back" "Help"|<LVL::Debug>
InstallWizard|Button label size information 66, 4, 16|<LVL::Debug>
InstallWizard|USER_ACTION_BTN_PUSH: Screen = DNS Client Configuration, button pushed = Yes|<LVL::Info>
InstallWizard|USER_ACTION_BTN_PUSH: Screen = DNS Client Configuration, button pushed = OK|<LVL::Info>
InstallWizard|validateIpAddr: 10.1.1.1|<LVL::Debug>

Thanks for the pointers Wes!

These are the pertinent lines in my install.log:

10/03/2009 07:26:42 InstallWizard|[line 1247] dnsMandatory: getenv dns_mandatory_on_install='false'.|<LVL::Debug>
10/03/2009 07:26:42 InstallWizard|Arguments: "DNS Client Configuration" "Do you want to enable Domain Name System (DNS) Client on this machine?" "Yes" "No" "Back" "Help"|<LVL::Debug>
[...]
10/03/2009 14:53:20 InstallWizard|Tag LocalHostDnsPrimary not found.|<LVL::Warn>
10/03/2009 14:53:20 InstallWizard|Tag LocalHostDnsSecondary not found.|<LVL::Warn>
10/03/2009 14:53:20 InstallWizard|LocalHostDnsSecondary duplicate of LocalHostDnsPrimary.  Value=.|<LVL::Warn>
10/03/2009 14:53:20 InstallWizard|Value LocalHostDomain not found.|<LVL::Warn>

I guess this means the installer chose "No" to enabling DNS? Or does this just imply that there are no DNS servers specified at this stage, but the installer may have answered "Yes"?

Regards

James.

I don't see a way to retrieve that file based on RTMT file specifications:
https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-16943

the install logs should show the results of the decision but not the decision itself. You'd need to open a TAC case and provide remote access to create a remote support account to get the file /usr/local/platform/conf/platformConfig.xml

Interestingly I don't see it any DNS specified in the platformConfig.xml on my lab server:
[root at CUCM613Pub /]# grep -i dns /usr/local/platform/conf/platformConfig.xml
[root at CUCM613Pub /]#

and the install log confirms this:
[root at CUCM613Pub root]# cd /common/log/install [root at CUCM613Pub install]# ls
car_start_time.log  dbl_start_ouput_2011_01_19_17_21_06.log  ks.cfg     rs-account.xml  rs-enable.xml
cuc-install.log     install.log                              partAlloc  rs-dv.xml       system-history.log
[root at CUCM613Pub install]# grep -i dns *

so getting the file is non-trivial but verifying the log is pretty straight forward.

CSCtg81202 Serviceability or Platform report to capture all current info for vm lic
would be a great enhancement if you want to drop a line to your Cisco account team. I just added a Release-note so it will be visible in Bug Toolkit in 24-48 hours.

Does anyone know if it's possible to get hold of the platformConfig.xml file that gets generated during the CUCM (v6.1.x) install process please?

I've tried downloading the install logs from RTMT and browsing around the filesystem using the CLI, but can't find it. I wanted to determine whether the installers clicked yes to enabling DNS.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
