A blog I found had a pretty elegant workaround:
a loopback configured on each router that allows telnet to/from the loopback IP only
Obviously, it'd just be nice if you could do it straight from the SSH terminal.

What do you mean? SSH is just the protocol to access the router cli, the command should work regardless of using telnet or ssh to access the router.

I know it's an hidden ios (undocumented) IOS command, but does anyone know if "csim start" would ever be expected to work with SSH?
