This is for upgrading a Cisco C2XX for problem where the guest NIC (Broadcom QuadGE) won't show Connected and utils nework eth0 shows a problem; To check vfd -h, see below KB article;

Download the file update-from-esxi4.1-4.1_update02.zip

Use Putty or SecureCRT SSH to vCenter (other option is to burn ISO for cd-rom drive and upgrade via cd-room at boot, that is not what I am doing)
Download WinSCP from http://winscp.net/ to copy the .zip file you downloaded to the vCenter Appliance.
Copy update-from-esxi4.1-4.1_update02.zip to your vCenter Appliance using SCP and WinSCP.
Before Upgrade VMware vSphere Client shows 4.1.0 348481
After Upgrade VMware vSphere Client shows 4.1.0 502767
Use VMware vSphere Client to shutdown virtual machines and enter host into Maintenance Mode
ssh to your vCenter then issue;
vi-admin at localhost:~> vihostupdate --server atlesx82 --install --bundle ./update-from-esxi4.1-4.1_update02.zip
Enter username: <-----this is the host root login/password
Enter password:
Please wait patch installation is in progress ...
The update completed successfully, but the system needs to be rebooted for the changes to be effective.

Use VMware vSphere Client to restart host After upgrade the VMware vSphere Client will connect to vmware.com to download new VMware vSphere Client.
Use vSphere Client will to exit Maintenance Mode and restart your VMs.

Unless otherwise indicated by a UC app, UC supports all VMware vSphere ESXi patches, updates and Maintenance Releases for a supported major/minor release at time of VMware launch as long as the server vendor supports them.
