Hi Matthew,
I am assuming the call was an external call.
I have seen the following scenario.
External call via H.323 gateway to ISDN PRI.
WAN connection goes down, phone reports registration fail.
Call drops out.
The fix for this instance (so that the call stays up at least) is to:
Set the CUCM service parameter – allow peer to preserve call = True
Configure call preservation on the H.323 gateway.
But I guess this depends on your deployment and the scenario in which the call failed.

The phone won't disconnect a call and I've never heard of that happening, other than network issues. I'd check layer1 and 2. Could be a bad cable or a cable that has been pinched or damaged
