[cisco-voip] v9.1 IM&P service domain question

A quick question here... Using v9.1 CUCM and IM&P... 

Does the "IM and Presence Domain" have to be the same as the suffix of people's directory URI to work properly? Will the parent domain suffice? 

The majority of our users have @acme.com as their directory URI suffix, but some have @mail.acme.com, others have @sales.acme.com, etc. 

I'm hearing that v10 offers a lot more flexibility, but I'm wondering what v9 gives me. Or doesn't give me.
