I don't pretend to understand all of the ways the server uses its
partitions, but I'd have to imagine there is the static DB configuration in
addition to some disk swapping, temp files, and caches, etc. Therefore,
it's probably a little tricky to know exactly when you need to perform this
OVA adjustment before you experience any negative effects.  Which leaves
you with doing it earlier than truly necessary, and in which case, you
could just do it now to avoid any headaches.

This is a great topic and I'm truly interested in everyone's input here.
