[cisco-voip] Phone equipment refresh?

Ah - you're at the same precipice we find ourselves. You've got a boat load of 7900s out there. People wanting gigabit. Deprecations on their way. Hookswitches breaking. No more inventory.
I think the best thing is to plan a line item in the budget that can be floated year to year. The last thing you want is to spend money when you don't have to. But also, to stop the migration mid stream. I think they also have to know that these next batch of phones are not going to last as long as the 7940s.
If you are committed to gigabit to the desktop, then you'd have to choose between the 7841 and the 8811 as the entry model phones. Since we want gigabit plus others for our advanced set (of a two set system) I think we're gonna stick with the 8800 series. The first color model is just a few bucks more than the greyscale 8811.
You've got similar situations as us to contend with. Including people seeing other people with better phones. It wasn't as visible with the 7942/62. With the 7800/8800 it is. Especially with colour screens.
In the short term, I think we're gonna buy some refurbished 7942s to buy us some time until we get a long term plan and budget in place.

Subject: [cisco-voip] Phone equipment refresh?
We are currently at CUCM 11.5.
We will soon be able to provide Gig to desktop but our current phones will prevent us from doing so. We need to devise a
plan and wondered what others do for their equipment.
The majority of phones we have are 7900 series. They are working well for the most part so we replace as needed.
We are concerned that the 7900 series may be eliminated from a future CUCM version and prevent us from upgrading.
Does anyone have a plan for a refresh on Cisco VoIP phones?
Do you lease or did you purchase?
We appreciate any information you can offer.
Thank you.
