[cisco-voip] No longer able to change Jabber username on reset (recent change, upgrade from CUCM 9 to CUCM 11.5)

Anthony, silly goose; that feature is for all those times everyone is using Jabber for Windows in a Windows VM, hosted on a MacBook running High Sierra, so you can save the URL in a text file on the MacBook host and AirDrop the text file to your phone, so you can “Open With” Safari on your mobile phone, so it can redirect you to the App Store on your phone.

How else would you get to the App Store on the iPhone?

I heard it was in the top 5 most requested features for 12.1

... at least it wasn’t enabled by default ....

Let's not forget this one:

What's New in Cisco Jabber for Windows 12.1

Jabber Mobile App Promotion—You can enable a notification for Cisco Jabber for Windows users to promote the use of the Cisco Jabber for Mobile clients. Clicking the notification lets the user download the app from Google Play or the Apple App Store. You can configure this notification using the EnablePromoteMobile parameter.

This parameter is enabled by default.

The only way I have ever found UPN discovery to be useful is if it is only ever one butt in a seat per login (even then, TSHOOT is tough because you have to log the PC out if you want to log someone else in).

If your use case involves multiple jabber users without multiple windows domain logins on a single PC... it is as frustrating as it gets.

I see the value and how it has the potential to help IT departments with user issues, but it never should have been an “always on unless you turn it off per client” feature. I should have to use the CLI switch to turn it on, not off.

IMO, the biggest Jabber client fail besides not giving me a stupid on/off toggle for WebexConnect CAS logins ... (*giving @heycisco a glassy eyed stare*).

I’ll have to remember that CLEAR=1 option.

Not sure if I’m going to suggest our software team uses this switch or not. For the most part, everyone will be using their windows userID to login.

Thing is, I really want to use this option of logging in with other userIDs as a troubleshooting step. You know, if joe can log in with their userID on your machine, then it’s not the machine, it’s your userID/config, and stuff like that.

Correct, the “CLEAR” switch cleans up the registry behaviors that were previously set by the default UPN discovery behavior.

Again, why Cisco made this behavior enabled by default is a mystery to me. I definitely see its value, but it is not a behavior that should be on by default.

Hahahahahahaha ....

When you reinstalled with the command line switches: UPN_DISCOVERY_ENABLED=false CLICK2X=DISABLE did you do so as a local admin on the PC and also reboot the PC after installation, before trying a new login attempt?

Changes to our Windows environment – heck – could be! I have no idea what changes they make in the background.

I have tried installing with the suggested cli, but still no change. I had to remove the quiet since it didn’t really install.

I used msiexec.exe /i CiscoJabberSetup.msi UPN_DISCOVERY_ENABLED=false

Still remembers lelio.

This is so weird.

Here is a more proper reference on UPN discovery below (I tend to not like ONLY, support forum citations).

Have you;

a.) upgraded the J4W client recently?
b.) made changes to your Windows environment (it’s been my experience the UPN discovery doesn’t always work if you don’t log into a Windows domain)

Are you;

a.) certain it wasn’t installed with upn discovery disable before (Ex. Another admin pushed the installer via script ... etc)

Why Cisco made UPN binding a default enabled behavior in the Windows client is to me, as much of a mystery as why I can’t get a simple button to turn off Webex CAS authentication discovery ... I think some one at RTP lost a bet.

Have a look at https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/unified-communications/jabber/212471-jabber-login.html<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cisco.com%2Fc%2Fen%2Fus%2Fsupport%2Fdocs%2Funified-communications%2Fjabber%2F212471-jabber-login.html&data=02%7C01%7C%7C2cfcf4c5604740c0ecb308d612a2d68e%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C636716887921991150&sdata=ImxBVHMllv33SKrKEUzGTcprg5vTunOucj6D5qyr%2BTU%3D&reserved=0>

Looks like I’m hitting the lot today.

I ran into a problem where I can’t seem to change the username on Jabber any longer, even with a reset. It defaults back to the user I had earlier.

The only recent change is our upgrade from CUCM v9 to CUCM v11.5. I’m guessing that did it, but I’m hoping to find a way out of this.

I’m in the middle of my research right now, but if anyone has a quick link or fix to this, that would be great.
