As many of you know, Northwestern provides multicast streams of CSPAN and
CSPAN2 out to Internet2 using Video Furnace technology.

Thanks to our colleagues at Brown for reporting to us several weeks ago that
the audio/video quality on those streams was suboptimal, with lots of
pixelation/macroblocking and audio distortion. After a lot of
troubleshooting (which many of you also helped with, thanks to those folks as
well!), we determined that the problem was due to a bug in the Video Furnace
software viewer application (Instream).

VF has identified and fixed what they believe to be the cause of the problem
in the Instream client, and the new version (4.2.3) has been installed on our
servers as of this afternoon. If people who have multicast-enabled
connections to I2 could check on how things look now and let us know if there
are any major problems, we would really appreciate it.

The client can be launched at <http://www.i2-multicast.northwestern.edu/>.
You can verify that you're running the 4.2.3 version of the player by
clicking the "i" information button under the volume controls.

Thanks again to everyone who helped out!!!
