Help with AR-2 receiver

Hi;

  I am in the process of restoring an AR-2 receiver and in trying
to tune up the broadcast band I am having problems getting the mixer
to track in the lower portion, as a matter of fact it is totally dead
below 800Kc (the other 3 bands track OK).  The only adjustment in the
mixer circuit is a 'piston' type capacitor and it does not seem to
have any effect.  I can use a tuning wand and get the set to track, so
I assume that this cap is bad.

 As I do not have any information on this set ( except the schematic
taken from the 1954 catalogue), does anyone have any other ideas of
what the problem could be.

 I do not know why I am wasting so much time on this set, but now
it has become a major thorn in my side.  It also came with the early
metal cabinet, so this is an incentive to get it restored.
