Another interesting 6AU6 trivia bit from Heath...There were some Soviet
'6AU6's' being purchased at one point in the early 90's. They were way
too tall, probably 1/2" or more. They worked fine everywhere but the
elevated sockets, like the vfo. (The lid wouldn't close!).
Occasionally we'd get a letter in service from a customer who was angry
over the use of 'Communist' tubes from USSR, but that's where
International Servicemaster was getting them from...not much choice in
the US at the time. I showed the tech next to me, jokingly, the solution
to that 'problem'...as I scratched the SR of the end of USSR....but I
didn't ship any that way...that tube went in the test bench unit! :o)
