WH-99 prototype ?

An interesting radio followed me home from Dayton. It looks like a HW-99 but
appears to be hand made (not a production unit). The front and rear panels
are not screened. The fellow it came from said he got it in a lot from
Zenith. A hand written label on the front reads "HW-99 #3". A piece of tape
in the chassis reads "Unit #1". There are a number of hand wired mods,
especially on the upper board. The band switch has 8 positions.

Maybe someone on the list was around Heath in the late 80's. Can anyone shed
any light on the history of this radio?

I don't have a manual and since the panels are not labeled, it would be nice
to know what connects to what. There is a 1/4" phone jack on the lower left
front panel that is probably the headphone jack. Two phono jacks are on the
rear panel, one is above the antenna connector and the other near the power
transformer. One is probably the key input and the other the speaker
output. If anyone can identify the jacks for me, I'll see if it works. Now
the big question is where do you plug in the microphone ;-)

Thanks and 73's
