SB301 Question

Hi  fellow Heath users. I just purchased a set of twins....301/401. All looks
good so far. The receiver seems to work great.  A question please. When I
switch to stand by, the S-meter pegs to full scale and sits there. Any band,
any mode. Is this normal? I can find nothing in the manual. I hope all is
okay.  Can some one please comment. Also I will be looking for any
accessories....the SB600 and station console.
