Techniques for Repairing meters

Dear Mike...                                      Saturday 24-vii-98.

Yes, I replaced the "innards" of the meter from my Johnson Ranger-1
transmitter the way you described...

It's not ALL that difficult---all you need to know is the basic meter
movement value of the the original, and find one that is electrically and
physically similar. THEN you need a VERY, VERY STEADY HAND when swapping,
as the screws, etc. are SMALL inside them things.

I found a Simpson meter similar to my original...all I had to do was make
the meter face mounting holes slightly oblong/elongated to fit the movement
properly (a small rat-tail file did the job). The only difference now
between it and the original is the pointer, i.e. the replacement has a
"pin" pointer, whereas the original had that "...ace of spades" look at the
end.

It IS worth it, and you can save mucho buckos in the process. Good luck!
