Classic Heathkits and SB104A Comments

My vote would be a three way tie. The AT1 for starting it all, the DX100 for really making Heath a
factor in ham gear, and the SB line in the 60's/early 70's for its domination of the ham market.
Look at a picture of virtually any shack from the era, and Heath will be there. Also, I think the entire
SB104 series with all accessories and SB230 amp all lined up and turned on is still the best looking
ham station I own and have ever seen. Both my 104A's work very well and sound exceptional on
receive audio, though they don't have the selectivity and overload rejection of my 1000mp and Corsair2.
One was built by an audio engineer and has had one small problem in almost 16 years regular use. The
other I did have to go through, but was able to bring the rig back from the dead and use it on a regular
basis. It had been back to Heath for an overhaul. I think this lends credibility to the fact that if you had
a SB104A ( revised model ) and assembled it correctly it was a very good radio. I just wish my SS9000
had used the color scheme and layout of the 104 Hi Hi. 73's to all from a true "Heathen" Steve, WB0UGO
Note- I always knew I was one and when I got into collectig Heath it confirmed it.
