HW-16 Question

I used to have a "Super Modified" HW-16 quite some years ago. The only
problem I had using it (if you can call it a problem) was fixed output
loading. In other words, the antenna must have a relatively low SWR for
maximum output. It expects to see 50 Ohms (+ or - what, I forgot). The
receiver RF input stage is also tuned by the same PI network as the
transmitter. I ended up adding a variable capacitor internally but it
would have been just as easy to add an external antenna tuner and be
done with it. Aside from that, it was really great using the HW-16 on CW
because it had QSK. The receiver seemed to be fairly quiet but sensitive
enough when using a full size resonant antenna at 35 feet. The neon bulb
side tone drove me batty and I used the one built into my keyer instead.
