COD CASH vs CASH UP FRONT !!

I tend to agree with a previous poster who said that a USPO money order
gives you additional recourse if there is a real problem - like
non-shipment. While I do believe we - on this list - and several other ham
radio related ones - are more trustworthy in general than the computer
population at large (lots of distrust on rec.radio.swap), there are
occasional problems. Sure, it's a bit extra effort and you don;t get the
check float, but I feel more comfortable, as a buyer or seller, with the
money order. The exception would be where I personally know the other
party and then checks are fine.
Remember, commercial sales generally use credit cards. They are LOTS safer
than any of the methods we use with each other. I would much prefer to
charge something or receive a charge (if I could) than other means. You
have plenty of legal recourse via that method. The one method I will not
use is COD of any type. It offers you no real extra protection (someone
could ship you a brick) and someone has to be home to get it.
It's still caveat emptor in both directions when you deal with unknown
parties. I always hope the other person is honest and above board but
problems can occur, intentional or unintential, and, no matter what, it is
a pain to get things untangled. No method is flawless, but some are better
than others.
