AR3 cabinet clean/paint

Heathers,
Has anyone tried to clean up AR3/AR2 cloth/paper? covered cabinet? Is there a
right and wrong way? Using diluted soap and damp, not wet, cloth I was able
to get mine fairly clean. However, lot of wear and a few dings, and wonder
about painting or re-covering it. Any source of the cloth known to anyone out
there?
