STRANGE REQUEST

Merry Christmas Ray & all,

Your question about the illustration of the two guys sitting at the shack
table brought back vivid memories of various Heath drawings that I still
remember from my youth. It was 42 years ago today that I was introduced to
my first Heathkit -- a CR-1 -- as a Christmas gift. I was 10 yrs old.
Someday I'll write up the story of that Christmas and the impact that little
kit had on my life!

Onward -- I started sifting thru some of my few remaining original Heath
manuals. I have an assembly manual for the HW-7, whose cover illustration
depicts the "father" standing and leaning over work the workbench, observing
the assembly work of his "son" -- seated at the bench. On the bench, there's
a DX-40-ish looking cabinet, a large audio speaker, a chassis, coils of
wire, a few knobs and an assortment 'objects' that obviously belong in a
Studabaker 2-barrel carburetor ;)

The "father" is wielding a GIANT flat-blade screwdriver and an assy manual.
He has well-groomed hair, a skinny tie with a tie clip just above his
belt-line and pleated slacks. He's a bit better looking than Dick Tracy.

The son is looking up at his father as he seemingly ponders, "Am I doin'
this right, Dad?"

Strangely, the son is attempting to jam a Lucky Strike cigarette into the
innards of a 365pF tuning condenser, which was one of the many mods that I
attempted on my own CR-1. (didn't help performance...)

Even stranger, the father is beaming with approval ! The kid is smiling back
at his father and they both look very happy.

The cover illustration I have is printed light yellow on Heath "nicotine
dark yellow," and well-stained with coffee and solder burns -- not scanable!
Wow, that was a long time ago...great stuff :-)

Hope you find your illustration, Ray!

Merry Christmas you guys,

Conrad Weiss - NN6CW

I know this might seem a bit of a strange request, but here goes anyway.
I'm sure all Heath lovers remember the little drawing that Heath used to use
in some of their ads of the two guys sitting at the shack table... I think
the one guy was showing the other what ham radio was ... (assuming)...
there was a transmitter with a mic in front of it... (looked like maybe a
dx-40 or similar) and a receiver with a speaker on top. I had a copy of that
small picture a long time ago and once used
it on a QSL card. I have searched through old handbooks and QST's and other
material trying to find it. Is there anyone who might have it that can scan
it and email it to me? Is there anyone who even remembers it or knows what
I am talking about?
